How Fruit For The Office deals with AI
Now if you’ve been reading the news much, you might be aware that “AI” is being plastered all over it, with the opinion being quite controversial; and rightfully so. For those of you who don’t know what AI is, it’s an abbreviation for “Artificial Intelligence.” They are systems or computers that learn from data sets, which then can produce some outputs. The idea is that the more data it is fed, the more it learns (hence ‘Intelligence’) and the better the output they can provide. We’ve had Artificial Intelligence for decades, as early as the 1950’s; although they were quite primitive.
So what makes them so fascinating in recent news? The Answer: ChatGPT and Bard.
Bard and ChatGPT are both large language models (LLMs) that are trained on massive datasets of text and code. They can generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way. However, Bard is developed by Google AI, while ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI.
They’re very intelligent, so much so that all of the text that’s in italics, was actually generated by Bard; weird, right?
They can go beyond just what was described too, and there exists AI that can actually create images and graphics. In-fact, every image in this article is generated by AI – I know, it just keeps getting more and more strange.
Since AI is a new thing, atleast, to the every-day public, it can be quite scary. Furthermore, it’s regulations are quite limited across the globe, so it’s not clear how people are held responsible, and who will ensure that they are.
Understand that AI is very early in its development; Just because it has the potential to be harmful, it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be used. In fact, AI is incredibly useful; the variety of tasks it can perform is impressive, and the speed it does this with is just as good. Due to the capabilities of AI, both good and bad, and the lack of regulatory bodies surrounding it, AI must be utilised with great care and conscience.
Fruit For The Office prides itself on sustainable and ethical decision making, and our attitude to AI is no different. AI is purely used as a supplementary tool. It can provide a reference, a guide, a starting point; small touches to just enhance our workplace. It’s never left unsupervised or unmonitored. We understand the benefits that can come from it, and we are constantly staying up to date with the condition of the AI that we use. AI is a part of the future, and we are committed to putting the best technologies and practices into place. Learning how to utilise AI properly and, more importantly, safely, is an imperative goal that we strive for; and can’t wait to integrate into our systems.
